The Fast and Furious series is chugging towards its end. Spin-off films like Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw can keep the auto franchise going. But how about them continuation the action series centered on the characters of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham? Is Hobbs and Shaw 2 still planned?
The short answer: No, currently Hobbs and Shaw 2 is neither planned nor in progress. The long answer isn’t much more optimistic, but offers bright spots. Hobbs and Shaw, while profitable, was not as successful as hoped. A budget of almost 200 million US dollars faced a box office result of 760 million US dollars. For comparison, Fast and Furious 6, 7 and 8 all grossed more, the last two grossing over $1 billion. These numbers did not deter. However, they also did not encourage a Hobbs and Shaw sequel. The dispute between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson may have additionally slowed down the plans. The latest update comes from producer Kelly McCormick. She told Comic Book in December that a sequel was in the works “not in conversation”. However, spin-offs like Hobbs and Shaw will become more interesting once the Fast main series ends. And it doesn’t take that long anymore.

In fact, Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) have been bitter enemies since the events of Fast & Furious 6 and Fast & Furious 7. Despite their shared love of tuned-up cars, the Secret Service agent and the ex-enlisted soldier couldn’t be more different and would love to wring each other’s necks.
But then the international terrorist Brixton (Idris Elba) appears on the scene, who has genetically upgraded his body and is now spreading fear and terror.
