The Guardians of the Galaxy series, which was significantly influenced by James Gunn, is officially over with the third film. The director will for now no more movies for the MCU can rotate. As the new co-boss of DC Studios, he’ll have enough to do building his own multimedia comic universe for years to come.

An MCU return would not be possible for Gunn due to the exclusive contract with DC for four years, as the Hollywood Reporter reports. But that doesn’t rule out a return for the Marvel team itself. The film series can continue without Gunn’s involvement. However, concrete plans for Guardians of the Galaxy 4 are not yet known.

Will the new generation of Guardians of the Galaxy return?

The era of the Guardians of the Galaxy ends and a new one begins. Rocket Racoon has to say goodbye to some of his friends in the finale of Vol. 3 and founds one as a result new version of the galactic protectors. These include Groot, Adam Warlock, Kraglin, Cosmo and Phyla. A continuation of the series would therefore be possible without the participation of characters such as Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista).

Adam Warlock is part of the new Guardians of the Galaxy

The best example of this would be the upcoming 4th Captain America film New World Order. Here, an existing MCU series is continued without the previous main character. Instead of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), his successor Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will now play the title hero. Whether Marvel will take this path for the Guardians of the Galaxy is speculation so far.

Even if a 4th Guardians of the Galaxy movie is not yet in sight, there is already one in the upcoming MCU plan perfect opportunity for an appearance from Rocket’s new Guardians squad. For some time now, Marvel Studios has been working on a project about the cosmic superhero Nova.

Should there actually be a Nova film in the near future, an appearance by the Guardians would be a logical consequence. After all, the character in the template is closely linked to the Nova Corps, who already made a prominent appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition, is Nova in the Marvel Comics even part of the Guardians of the Galaxy at times.

What does the Marvel future hold for Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord?

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 ends with the promise that we’ll see the “legendary” Star-Lord again in the future. His new attribute was certainly not chosen at random. Because the Marvel Comics Legendary Star-Lord from 2014 follows the solo adventures of Peter Quill.

Disney

Star-Lord soon to go solo?

Since Peter is no longer part of the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of the 3rd film and lives on Earth, he will have to assert himself in the future. While his next MCU appearance has been confirmed, we still don’t know what form or when it will take place.

On the one hand, Chris Pratt could have one of his own MCU film or series about Star-Lord’s adventures to lead But it would also be possible that he joins a new team and thus becomes part of a new superhero family after the Guardians.

Two new Avengers movies await us in the coming years. Chances are we’ll see Star-Lord again in Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers 6: Secret Wars. As a new dweller on earth, he could join the Avengers in the futureto protect his new old home. And it wouldn’t be the first time he’s fought alongside Marvel’s most prominent team.

Will Drax, Gamora, Nebula and Mantis return to the MCU?

At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, several characters leave the teamto devote himself to new tasks from now on. Peter Quill returns to Earth, Gamora joins the Ravagers, and Nebula (Karen Gillan) becomes the leader of the Knowhere colony, where she is aided by Drax. Mantis (Pom Klementieff), on the other hand, embarks on a journey of self-discovery into the vastness of the galaxy with her three abilisks.
