James Gunn’s trilogy about the cosmic Marvel team comes to a tearful conclusion in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. For some characters, it is the final screen adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For others, the farewell brings a new beginning and a promising future.
We’ve collected the top questions the Marvel blockbuster leaves us with. What about Guardians of the Galaxy 4? What possibilities does the MCU future hold for Marvel heroes? And what’s next for Chris Pratt as Star-Lord? We took a closer look.

Will there be Guardians of the Galaxy 4?
The Guardians of the Galaxy series, which was significantly influenced by James Gunn, is officially over with the third film. The director will for now no more movies for the MCU can rotate. As the new co-boss of DC Studios, he’ll have enough to do building his own multimedia comic universe for years to come.
An MCU return would not be possible for Gunn due to the exclusive contract with DC for four years, as the Hollywood Reporter reports. But that doesn’t rule out a return for the Marvel team itself. Will the new generation of Guardians of the Galaxy return?

The best example of this would be the upcoming 4th Captain America film New World Order. Here, an existing MCU series is continued without the previous main character. Instead of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), his successor Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will now play the title hero. Whether Marvel will take this path for the Guardians of the Galaxy is speculation so far.
Even if a 4th Guardians of the Galaxy movie is not yet in sight, there is already one in the upcoming MCU plan perfect opportunity for an appearance from Rocket’s new Guardians squad. For some time now, Marvel Studios has been working on a project about the cosmic superhero Nova.
Should there actually be a Nova film in the near future, an appearance by the Guardians would be a logical consequence. After all, the character in the template is closely linked to the Nova Corps, who already made a prominent appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. What does the Marvel future hold for Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord?
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 ends with the promise that we’ll see the “legendary” Star-Lord again in the future. His new attribute was certainly not chosen at random. Because the Marvel Comics Legendary Star-Lord from 2014 follows the solo adventures of Peter Quill.

Since Peter is no longer part of the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of the 3rd film and lives on Earth, he will have to assert himself in the future. While his next MCU appearance has been confirmed, we still don’t know what form or when it will take place.
On the one hand, Chris Pratt could have one of his own MCU film or series about Star-Lord’s adventures to lead But it would also be possible that he joins a new team and thus becomes part of a new superhero family after the Guardians.

While each of these characters could theoretically reappear in the MCU, some cast members have already made it clear that their Marvel time is probably over is. Along with Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana also recently declared that Part 3 was the end of the road for her. Mantis star Pom Klementieff also seems to rule out a return without excluding her colleagues. The actress also revealed to Variety that she could soon be part of James Gunn’s DC Universe.
From the retired Guardians of the Galaxy members currently has only Peter Quill has a confirmed future in the MCU. It is unlikely that the other characters will experience their own adventures in film form. A small supporting role or a guest appearance in other galactic Marvel films is conceivable.
