“Is exactly what the sport needs”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Edvin Anger has had his big breakthrough.
And Petter Northug is ecstatic.
– He is exactly what the sport needs, says the Norwegian icon.

The Ski World Cup is fast approaching, and after a few really tough years for Sweden’s men, we suddenly have an exciting team, with several who can challenge for a medal. Calle Halfvarsson is having his best season in a long time, and William Poromaa has made huge strides in the last two years.

Done success

But there is another nugget that could seriously threaten to win a medal if all goes well. 20-year-old Edvin Anger has had an almost sensational breakthrough this winter, and has already taken Sweden to an impressive second place in a World Cup relay.

But in addition, Anger is a breath of fresh air on the side of the track, as he is not afraid to say what he thinks and thinks. This weekend, among other things, he went on a sharp attack against the icon Torgny Mogren. And one who loves what the Swede is doing is Petter Northug. The Norwegian icon himself was known for coming up with tricks pretty much all the time – against everything and everyone.

Northug’s giant tribute

And when Edvin Anger now also takes up a lot of space at the side of the track, Northug is enjoying himself.

– He is young and not afraid to say what he thinks. I believe in him more and more, and Sweden could really have something going on here. I really like the fact that he is aggressive and gets things done, says Northug to TV2, and continues:

– It’s exactly what skiing needs, and it’s very happy if you can now get a new Swedish star in the WC.

But despite Edvin Anger’s success and the fact that Sweden actually got ahead of Norway in the World Cup sprint this weekend, Northug doesn’t believe very much that it could repeat itself during the WC relay.

– In the WC, Norway will crush Sweden. I have a lot of respect for how Italy did in the World Cup, but it’s a meaningless relay.
