Is blue scorpion venom really effective in cancer treatment? Launched as ‘hope from Cuba’

Pointing out that cancer patients and their relatives get information about the blue scorpion venom from the internet, Medical Oncology Specialist Dr. Özveren stated that after the diagnosis, patients applied to the internet for information purposes and they encountered numerous comments and suggestions. Stating that recently, there have been many questions from patients about products with “blue scorpion venom”, the active ingredient of which has been touted as “hope from Cuba” to cancer patients, Uzm. Dr. Ozveren warned.

“SCIENTIFIC UNACCEPTABLE COMMENTS”

exp. Dr. Özveren said, “On the internet, it is claimed that blue scorpion venom is effective in cancer patients, commercial products are sold. Personal benefit stories are referenced. Such posts can mislead individuals. Because personal benefit stories are publications and findings that are not scientifically accepted. Components in scorpion venoms from various species have been found to have anticancer effects in laboratory and animal studies. However, it has not been scientifically proven that scorpion venom, especially blue scorpion venom, is effective as a cancer treatment in humans.

“NO PATIENT PRESENTATION”

On the other hand, although there are many scientific studies on cancer in Cuba, there is no report of patients treated with scorpion venom. Dr. Özveren continued his words as follows:

“The properties of scorpion venom have been started to be investigated with higher quality studies and drug development studies are continuing. Various countries are trying to develop drugs from animal poisons, including the venom of scorpion species, snake venom, and bee venom. Therefore, blue scorpion venom compounds, such as scorpion venoms, can be obtained and developed in the future and used in cancer treatments. However, for now, much more scientific studies are needed to obtain the effective ingredient and determine the appropriate dose. The use of any drug, substance or method whose scientific effectiveness has not been proven is purely experimental and may have very serious negative consequences. Patients should not use such a product recommended to them without the knowledge and approval of their physician.
