One of the most anticipated Netflix series of the year starts next week. Namely the new series of the creative duo Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, who previously created one of the best (and most complex) series of the streaming service with the nested time loop puzzle Dark. Can your latest work, 1899, keep up?
The 8-episode first season of 1899 comes to Netflix on November 17th. You can find out in our short and above all whether the new mystery series is worth it and whether it can meet the huge expectations of Dark fans spoiler-free first impression of 1899.

1899 – S01 Trailer (German) HD
When the Kerberos suddenly encounters the sister ship Prometheus, which has been missing for many months and seems completely abandoned, the to the 20 main characters a nightmarish descent into suffering, tragedy, class struggles and increasingly mysterious occurrences.
The special thing about 1899: the main characters all speak in their own different national languages – for example German, English, French, Spanish, Cantonese and Danish. In addition to the original version with subtitles, there is also a dubbed version completely in German. However, we recommend the original sound, otherwise one of the thematically most exciting aspects of the series will be lost.
After Dark success: Is the Netflix series 1899 worth it?
Who could delve into the complex puzzle levels of Dark with great passion and generally a soft spot for Mystery Box Series like Lost, Westworld or Manifest will be happy with 1899. Viewers can expect a puzzle game that lives on, amidst strange triangle symbols, mysterious contraptions, green bugs and endless mysteries looking for answers as to what’s going on here.

The three main protagonists in 1899
The nightmarish 1899 puzzle guesswork is embedded in the thematically diverse backstories and relationships of the characters that are revealed through Language barriers and class differences isolated from each other and need to find ways to overcome these boundaries. Her emotional and tragic connections offer a lifeline in the midst of an increasingly confusing plot.
1899 is at times told clumsily and therefore not recommended for people with a short attention span. The series is not entertaining puzzle fun, but about an enigma characterized by suffering, depressive severity and nihilism, the full concentration and attention demands. Anyone who is not deterred by this can expect an absolutely recommendable series highlight.
1899 launches November 17 on Netflix with all eight episodes. For this first impression, the first six episodes were available to us in advance.
