Ireland: Body of retiree taken to post office to collect paycheck

An investigation was launched after the body of a deceased man in Ireland was taken to a post office to withdraw his pension.

According to the report of the Irish Times, the body of the pensioner was taken to the building “supported by two people” in the incident that took place in the Carlow region.

In the news, it was reported that two men joined after the post office personnel questioned the situation.

Irish Police said the cause of the “old man’s unexplained” death was being investigated.

A Police Spokesperson emphasized that the direction of the investigation will become clear after the autopsy.

According to the Irish Times newspaper, when the two men approached the counter with the corpse in their midst, a post office worker was concerned about the condition of the man “who was being taken by the arm” and asked about the situation.

The two men then fled, leaving the body at the scene, and the post office workers were shocked when they realized that the old man was dead.

RTE, the official Irish television station, asked if a man could phone the post office and collect a pensioner’s salary for him.

The officials said that the pensioner should come in person and refused the request.

A short time later, the two men came back with a man in his 60s who had been “stacked” in the post office.

RTE reported that “detectives are investigating whether the old man was already dead when he was brought to the post office.”

A nearby house was also reportedly cordoned off as a “crime scene”.
