Iraq condemns US attacks against Iran-backed groups in the country.
According to the United States, the groups have been behind attacks on American soldiers.
The US strikes on Tuesday and Wednesday were carried out without the knowledge of Iraqi authorities, according to government spokesman Bassem al-Awadi, who says they are violations of the country’s sovereignty. He also criticizes the Iran-backed groups that the US says have carried out at least 32 attacks on US targets in Iraq since mid-October.
Eight Iran-backed militiamen in Iraq have been killed in US strikes, according to Hashed al-Shaabi, an umbrella organization for Iraqi militia groups close to Iran.
