Iranian rapper needs "emergency care"

“We are very concerned about the severity and extent of his injuries,” said CHRI’s source close to Toomaj, who claims he was severely tortured in the first days after his arrest, including blows to the head and a broken ankle.

In his music, the rapper has criticized the regime for, among other things, the death penalty, inequality, propaganda in the state media, even Iran’s trade with China is condemned. He has also dedicated a song to the inmates of the infamous Evin Prison in Tehran.

His home was stormed in the middle of the night and he was taken away along with two friends. Four weeks after the arrest came the first official information about Salehi: an indictment accusing him of “spreading corruption in the world” – a crime punishable by death in Iran.
