The deadly violence in Iran is escalating and, according to the UN, more than 300 people, including around 40 children, have been killed as a result of the protests against the regime. Pictures from the Kurdish parts of the country testify to brutal violence, which is strongly condemned by the outside world. Furthermore, it is extremely risky for journalists to report from inside Iran. Erik Halkjær, chairman of Reporters Without Borders, tells us that several Iranian journalists now risk the death penalty. International journalists are also not allowed to enter the country. “It is terrible not being able to be an eyewitness to what is happening,” says TV4’s Middle East correspondent Terese Cristiansson.
