Iran has sent an official response to the letter that US President Donald Trump sent earlier in March to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatolla Ali Khamenei to start conversations about the sensitive nuclear energy issue.
The Iranian response was appropriately sent through Oman “on Wednesday, according to the state news agency Irna with reference to the country’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
No details have been published about the Iranian response or content of Trump’s letter. In connection with Trump’s letter, the United States also stepped up its “maximum pressure” policy against Iran, which Trump introduced during his first term of office, by notifying new sanctions against Iran and threatening military measures.
Iran’s Foreign Minister repeats that indirect calls, which have taken place during previous administrations, can continue. However, no direct calls under “maximum pressure and military threats”.
During his first term as President, Trump unilaterally returned the United States from an agreement with Tehran from 2015. The agreement meant that sanctioning relief was changed to restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program.
Since then, several alarms have come that Iran is about to manufacture nuclear weapons – something that the regime in Tehran refuses.
