Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered the country to strike back directly at Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. This is stated by three Iranian officials for the New York Times.
The order was reportedly given during an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on Wednesday morning, shortly after Iran announced the death of the Hamas leader.
According to the sources, Iranian military commanders are considering another combined drone and missile strike against military targets near Tel Aviv and Haifa,
One option being considered is a coordinated attack by Iran and other countries where they have allied forces, including Yemen, Syria and Iraq, for maximum effect, the newspaper reports.
Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the murder. Israel has so far not commented on the incident.
