SWITZERLAND IS THE MOST SANCTION DECISION

As of February 22, the country with the most sanctions against Russia was Switzerland with 568 sanctions. Switzerland was followed by the European Union (EU) with 518 sanctions, France with 512 sanctions, Canada with 454 sanctions and Australia with 413 sanctions. Since that date, the USA has taken 243 sanctions against Russia.

Since that date, 2,427 sanctions against Russia have been applied to individuals, while 343 have targeted organizations, 6 have targeted ships and two have targeted aircraft.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree recognizing the so-called rule of pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

As a reaction to Putin’s decision, Western countries started to announce their first sanctions against Russia as of February 22.

On February 24, Russian President Putin announced that they had launched a special military operation in Donbas in eastern Ukraine.

With the official start of the attack on Ukraine, Western countries had put into effect a large number of sanctions, including especially finance, energy and transportation, as well as trade and individual restrictions, in order to make Russia pay a heavy economic price. (AA)
