Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country will “make the occupying terrorists regret their vile actions” for assassinating Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Pezeshkian, in his statement on the X social media account, said, “Iran mourns the death of Jerusalem Martyr Ismail Haniyeh.”
“THE BOND OF THE TWO NATIONS WILL BE STRONGER”
Pezeshkian, who met Haniyeh at the oath-taking ceremony held for him in the Parliament and called him “the brave comrade of the Palestinian resistance”, said, “The bond between the two honorable nations, Iran and Palestine, will be stronger than before. The resistance of the oppressed will be defended more strongly than ever.”
“IRAN WILL MAKE TERRORISTS REGRET IT”
Stating that the attack also targeted Iran’s territorial integrity, the Iranian President said, “Iran will defend its territorial integrity, dignity and honor and make the invading terrorists regret their despicable actions.”
At the end of his statement, Pezeshkiyan shared the verse from the Quran, “Surely Allah is Almighty, Owner of Retribution.”
HE OATHED REVENGE
Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei also vowed revenge after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Khamenei said, “It is Iran’s duty to avenge Haniyeh’s blood because he was martyred in our lands.”
3 DAYS OF MOURNING
The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported the statement released by the Iranian Government on the issue.
In the declaration condemning the assassination attempt on Haniyeh, it was announced that three days of mourning were declared throughout the country.
KILLED IN IRAN
Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
In a statement made in the early hours of July 31, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that an attack was carried out on Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran.
While Iran and the Hamas Movement hold Israel responsible for the assassination, Israeli officials have refrained from making a statement about the incident.
Haniyeh was elected as the Head of Hamas’ Political Bureau by the Hamas Shura Council on May 6, 2017, replacing Khaled Meshaal.
