Iran claims to have launched a domestically manufactured satellite into space | News in brief

According to government media, Iran has sent a satellite into space. Information about the launch has not been confirmed and no footage is available for now.

Iran announced on Saturday that it successfully launched a rocket built by the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard for the second time.

Iran says it has launched a Qaem-100 rocket carrying a satellite into space. The Chamran-1 satellite weighs 60 kilograms. Its orbit is at an altitude of 550 kilometers. The last time a rocket of the same type was launched in January.

Western countries fear that Iran’s program will strengthen its ballistic missile strike capability in a tense situation in the Middle East. Iran has carried out intermittent missile and drone attacks on Israel. The United States has previously characterized Iran’s satellite project as contrary to UN resolutions.

According to Iran, satellites are manufactured for civilian use.
