iOS 18.2: new features, release date and compatible iPhones

iOS 182 new features release date and compatible iPhones

The new iOS 18.2 update should be released this December and include several major new features for your iPhone.

While many Apple fans were expecting a release of iOS 18.2 this Monday, December 9, it was not the case. The firm preferred to postpone the arrival of the last public update of theiPhone on a date still unknown. It must be said that this new version has several new features particularly awaited by users with AI at the center of them.

What’s new in iOS 18.2?

The biggest news around iOS 18.2 concerns the integration of ChatGPT within your iPhone. This highly anticipated addition should allow your smartphone to be a little smarter when Siri can’t resolve your queries (which happens quite regularly). ChatGPT integration is completely free, but subscribers to the ChatGPT Plus service will still be able to take advantage of the additional features they already had beforehand. However, it appears that ChatGPT requests on iPhone are limited to a certain number of messages per day.

The other big new feature is exclusive to iPhone 16 since it only launches with the new “camera control” button. It’s a kind of Google Lens that allows you to analyze what you observe by relying on several resources. You will then get answers and searches from Google or ChatGPT.

Another AI-based feature: Genmoji. Concretely, it involves being able to create new Emojis by entering text on your iPhone. However, the results remain limited and it is not possible to create anything. But if you want to get, for example, an Emoji of a rabbit with a hat, this will be possible.

The last important novelty to report with iOS 18.2 still concerns images. This is the “Image Playground” function which is concretely an image generator in several graphic styles.

  • The entire iPhone 16 range
  • The entire iPhone 15 range
  • The entire iPhone 14 range
  • iPhone SE (2022) and iPhone SE (2020)

  • The entire iPhone 12 range

When is the iOS 18.2 release date?

While many expected to download iOS 18.2 on Monday, December 9 (as it should have been), the update is still not available as of this writing on Tuesday, the 10th in the morning. If Apple sticks to its traditions, iOS 18.2 should be available for compatible iPhones by next week with a preference for Monday, December 16 in the evening.
