In all likelihood, Apple should take advantage of its next conference to announce iOS 16. The next version of the operating system is expected around June, for a final release by the end of 2022. The release of iOS 16 should notably coincide with the arrival of the future iPhone 14.

Although no official information about iOS 16 is yet available, several insider information are already back on this new version. iOS 16 would not prepare many changes, but rather an improvement of the current use of iOS. Find out all the new features planned for iOS 16, its potential release date, as well as the first betas to come.

What’s coming for iOS 16?

iOS 16 wouldn’t shake up the Apple environment much for the iPhone. In any case, this is what several specialists report, including Jon Gurman from Bloomberg, and specialist in leaking Apple announcements. While iOS 15 had focused in particular on Facetime calls, its successor would mainly provide for an improvement in notifications and ways of using your iPhone. Small summary of the rumors around the future iOS 16.

Improved notifications

One of the great novelties of iOS 16 would reside in its notification system for the iPhone. These would be redesigned and “greatly improved” according to specialist Mark Gurman. No other explanations on the subject, but we can imagine that Apple will try to simplify or make more intuitive the notifications that your iPhone can flood you with all day long.

Satellite emergency calls

Several iOS 16 rumors point to a new feature for emergency calls. The latter could in particular be based on a satellite connection. This would allow your iPhone to be able to contact the emergency services, even in places where the network is too weak, or even non-existent.

A system of interactive widgets

A few iOS 16 rumors mention improved widgets. These small tools introduced with iOS 14 allow you to use these favorite applications differently. With iOS 16, the latter could become usable directly in their form of widgets. Currently, many widgets are unfortunately only shortcuts to launch their dedicated application.

New apps made in Apple

Mark Gurnman has spoken several times about iOS 16. The Apple specialist journalist explained in particular that several applications created by the Apple firm would be planned with the arrival of iOS 16, without giving further details.

Improvements for tracking your health

The Health application is highly appreciated by Apple and its community. iOS 16 should improve the latter, and in particular its sleep and medical tracking functions. The app would normally add health management for women, including more advanced menstrual cycle tracking and other data.

Many other rumors are circulating about the new features that iOS 16 could bring. We will of course keep you informed as soon as this new version is announced, with details of all the changes to come for your iPhone, as well as the first access to the beta.

What is the release date of iOS 16?

iOS 16 should be presented at the beginning of June 2022. This new version of the operating system which equips the iPhone is generally introduced to the general public during the Apple WWDC Keynote. The latter is held this year from June 6 to June 10. It is therefore highly likely that iOS 16 will be presented on Monday, June 6, 2022.

However, iOS 16 will not be available from June 6. If Apple respects its habits, the firm should offer the first beta of this new version to its partner developers as a priority. The final release date for iOS 16 is expected to fall during September 2022, alongside the new iPhone 14.

Will my iPhone be compatible with iOS 16?

The next version of iOS 16 unveiled at the Apple Keynote will be the one planned as the base on the next iPhone 14. But what about older versions of the iPhone? If Apple sticks to its habits, the iPhones compatible with the next iOS 16 would be the following:

  • The whole iPhone 14 range
  • iPhone SE 2 and iPhone SE 3
  • iPhone 13 and its different versions
  • iPhone 12 and its different versions
  • iPhone 11 and its different versions
  • iPhone X and its different versions
  • iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

While iOS 15 also included the iPhone 6s released in 2014, the next iOS 16 presented at the Apple Keynote would ignore them. You will therefore have to change your iPhone if you want to continue to benefit from the next updates, and in particular those designed for the security of your data.

When will the first beta of iOS 16 be available?

If iOS 16 is presented during the June WWDC Apple Keynote, we will certainly have to wait before getting our hands on it. Apple usually offers several beta versions of its operating system before deploying it on compatible iPhones. The first public beta for iOS 16 should be available in July/August 2022.
