Inzoi developer worked on MMOs for 20 years, then changed the genre because of his son

Inzoi on Steam seems to be one of the most promising games for 2025. One of the developers of the game spoke about how his son was the reason for his change from MMOs to simulation of life.

Who is the developer? It is Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim. He is a developer and director at Inzoi and spoke in an interview with PCGamer about his career.

The Korean has been developing video games for 20 years, but initially in a completely different genre, namely MMO. For example, he was involved in the development of the Korean MMOs like Elyon or Aion.

Son as inspiration for the change from MMO to life simulation

How did the developer come to the genre life simulation? The reason for the change from MMO to life simulation is his son, says Hyungjun Kim. He had liked the genre for a long time and played many life simulations with his son.

One day his son asked why there would no longer be games of this genre, which inspired the developer to start developing himself. He wanted to enrich the genre with something new, but at the same time it can remain sustainable in it.

The experience that Hyungjun Kim had gained in the development of MMOs could actually help him develop Inzoi. The design and creation of large worlds and detailed objects are similar in both genres, so that he could use his experience.

Even more: his skills in the adaptation of the character or the integration of buildings have made a significant contribution to designing Inzoi as he wanted. The parallels of development in these genres surprised the developer itself.

Finally, Hyungjun Kim still spoke out what he wanted for the game: “I hope that this game will be a source of beautiful memories for many people – as it is for me.”

The game Inzoi convinces with a lot of realism before the release in its trailers. But not everything in the game is absolutely logical and realistic, because the game houses spirits: Anyone who is too common in Inzoi on Steam becomes a punishment and must make everything to be repeated
