The more than 800-page report recommends that Congress block Donald Trump from running for president again.
The House of Representatives committee investigating the January 2021 attack on the US Capitol has released its long-awaited final report.
The report is more than 800 pages long and sums up an investigation that lasted more than 18 months, during which, among other things, the committee conducted more than a thousand interviews.
The report, divided into eight parts, estimates that the former president of the country is primarily responsible for the violence in the congress building Donald Trump.
Committee Chairman, Democratic Congressman Benny Thompson said Thursday in an interview with MSNBC that the Capitol riot would not have happened without Trump’s encouragement.
The committee recommends blocking Trump’s new presidential campaign
In the final report, the committee recommends that Congress prevent Trump from running for president again, say the newspaper, among others Washington Post (you will switch to another service) and a news channel Fox News (you are switching to another service).
According to Fox News, the committee recommends that Congress create a formal mechanism to assess whether the third section of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution could bar Trump from running for federal or state political office again.
According to the third section of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, a person who has participated in rebellion against the United States cannot run for office.
According to the committee’s final report, Trump’s actions were so aggravating that he should be denied the right to hold political office at the federal or state level in the future.
The committee’s recommendation is highly unlikely to be implemented, as it would require the support of the majority of Republicans in Congress.
Trump has already announced that he will run for president again in the 2024 presidential election.
Trump describes the report as highly biased
On Monday, the committee also recommended that criminal charges be brought against Trump.
The committee recommends impeachment against Trump for sedition, resisting official investigations, conspiracy against the US government and making false statements.
The recommendation does not mean that charges will necessarily be brought, as the final decision is made by the Ministry of Justice.
Trump commented on the massive report shortly after its publication on his own Truth Social platform.
Trump describes the final report as highly biased. Trump claims that various issues were purposely left unmentioned or investigated in the report.
He criticized, among other things, the fact that the report does not investigate the reason for the demonstrations that preceded the riots, election fraud.
The businessman has repeatedly made false claims about electoral fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

During the investigation, witnesses, almost all of whom were Republicans, according to NBC News, testified that Trump and his inner circle worked furiously to cast doubt on the legitimacy of President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential victory.
According to the report, Trump repeatedly resorted to lies and deception to sway the election result.
These lies led his supporters to storm the Congress House. In connection with the presidential election and in its aftermath, Trump put pressure on, among other things, the election authorities of key states, high-ranking leaders of the Ministry of Justice and state decision-makers.
According to the report, it is entirely possible that the ex-president tried to influence the committee’s witnesses as well.
