In October 2023 appointed the government an investigation that would give suggestions on how more people who are resident in Sweden with connections to another country can be made to re-migrate.
Above all, according to the government, it concerned people who were not integrated into Swedish society in terms of “self-sufficiency, language or other cultural factors”.
Today, Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) received the report.
Among other things, investigator Joakim Ruist suggests that immigrants who have become Swedish citizens and immigrants with relatives should also be able to apply for the re-migration allowance that exists today.
No increase in compensation
Financial support for return migration has existed in Sweden since 1984. Currently, people who wish to return can be granted financial support of SEK 10,000, with a limitation of SEK 40,000 per family.
It is also possible to apply for reimbursement for travel.
However, the investigator does not propose any increases in today’s contribution levels.
“The possible direct public economic profit is with great certainty relatively small, while at the same time there may be a risk of societal and economic damage that is significantly greater,” he writes in the investigation.
