Investigation shows: Pupils in Katrineholm were wrongly placed in a special school

The municipality has reviewed around 500 school psychology investigations carried out between 2010 and 2019. The review shows shortcomings in 25 cases and has led to several children being wrongly placed in special schools. Since the municipality began the review, a total of 17 previous diagnoses have been removed.

Parents got in touch

The investigations were carried out by external psychologists. Among other things, it has been parents of the affected children who contacted the municipality and felt that something was not right. The external psychologists have not been hired by the municipality since 2019.

Head of school Johan Lindeberg says that the municipality failed in its review of the investigation results. He also says that they will do their utmost to find an individual solution and support for each student who has been affected.

May involve several cases

Could there be more young people who have been misdiagnosed that you don’t yet know about?

– That may very well be the case. It is still the case that we have young people who have left school and are older now, and there we will see how, together with IVO, we can investigate and move forward with it, says Johan Lindeberg.

What has the municipality done to prevent something like this from happening again? Hear the headmaster’s story in the clip above.
