The US State Department claimed that Paraguayan President Hugo Velazquez had offered a $1 million bribe to an official through a third party in recent weeks and claimed that he was involved in significant corruption. Following the US allegations, the Paraguayan Attorney General’s Office announced that it has launched a criminal investigation against Velazquez.
CRIMINAL CASE OPENED
The Public Department said in a statement that Attorney General Sandra Quinonez has ordered a criminal case against Velazquez to seek “the facts regarding the testimony of US Ambassador Marc Ostfield.”
Velazquez stated that he will continue as vice president until he receives details of the charges against him. (UAV)
