Investigation into high-profile truck chase is closed – driver ill

On a Wednesday afternoon in July, the police were alerted to a truck with a trailer driving erratically outside Uppsala. It was driving in the wrong lane on road 55 and at the height of the Röbo roundabout, the police found the track and started the chase.

But the driver did not stop the heavy vehicle, but continued all the way to the E4 roundabout in Gränby. Outside Gränbystaden, the lorry came close to running into several pedestrians and a short time later the lorry trailer overturned.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was taken to hospital by ambulance and was suspected of gross negligence in traffic, causing danger to another, drunk driving and minor drug offences.

The investigation closed

The police have now closed the investigation after questioning and analyses.

– It was a case of illness. The driver has diabetes and the machine that should indicate that everything was not right did not work, says Roland Komaromi, press spokesperson at the police.

As the police investigation has been closed, the driver has received his driving license back.

– You can ask whether he should have a truck licence, but it has been decided that way. In this case, he has done what he could, says Roland Komaromi.

SVT Nyheter Uppsala has searched for the driver, but without success.
