Investigation completed – tightened procedures after the fatal accident on the F17

The driver of the tanker must not have seen the young man, who worked as a fuel soldier, when the accident occurred. This is because, according to the investigation, the deceased soldier was standing at an angle that meant he could not be seen by the driver, says Sydöstra.

After the incident, a series of measures are now proposed to prevent similar accidents from happening again.

One such measure is to introduce a safety distance of two meters around tankers and trucks. This will be a provision that only takes place locally at F17 in Kallinge.

Anders Jönsson, colonel and flotilla commander at F17 says that the flotilla now intends to introduce a rule that requires personnel to have eye contact with the driver if the vehicle’s engine is on

– This is actually how we already work with our aircraft and with clearing operations. The same rules also apply to combat vehicles, but for some reason this rule does not exist for the type of vehicle that was involved in the accident, he tells Sydöstran.
