UN experts are calling for an independent investigation into allegations of Israeli abuses against Palestinian women and girls. The charges include murder, rape and sexual assault.

A statement by seven independent UN experts expressed concern about “credible allegations of egregious human rights violations” against women and girls in Gaza and the West Bank.

“We are shocked by the reports that Palestinian women and children are being targeted and killed extrajudicially in places where they have sought refuge, or while they are on the run,” the statement said.

The experts want to see an independent investigation into the allegations, and call on Israel to cooperate.

From the Israeli side, the accusations have been refuted and called “despicable and unfounded”, while however it is said that it is ready to investigate accusations if they are “credible” and presented with evidence.

The experts are appointed by the UN Human Rights Council but do not represent the UN.
