Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis gathered on Sebin Street in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, after Friday prayers to protest the air strikes jointly organized by the USA and the UK. Support for Palestine was also expressed at the protest, where slogans against the USA, England and Israel were chanted.
“MILLION WORLD SHOW”
Houthis’ Military Spokesperson Yahya Seri shared images of the protest and support show held in Sanaa under the name “million-dollar demonstration” on the X social media platform.
Houthis’ Supreme Political Council Member Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, who came to the podium to give a speech during the protest, thanked the countries that stood against the USA and England with an automatic rifle in his hand.
US and British warplanes carried out air strikes on some points in Yemen’s Sanaa, Hudaydah and Taiz cities at night.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE RED SEA?
The Houthis in Yemen, supported by Iran, have begun seizing commercial ships off the coast of Yemen, which they say are affiliated with Israeli companies, and attacking some of them with drones and missiles since October 31, as a reaction to Israel’s attacks in Gaza.
US forces announced that they shot down missiles and kamikaze drones fired from Yemen many times during this period.
Following the actions of the Houthis, many shipping companies decided to stop their voyages in the Red Sea.
The USA announced that a multinational “maritime task force” called “Operation Welfare Guardian” was formed against the Houthi forces with the participation of a group of countries on December 18, on the grounds that global maritime trade security was in danger.
Three speedboats belonging to the Houthis, who were trying to seize an Israeli-linked ship in the Red Sea on December 31, were under fire by US helicopters.
The Houthis reported that on January 10, a US ship was targeted with missiles and kamikaze drones in the Red Sea on the grounds that it supported Israel.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted the draft resolution submitted by the USA and Japan on January 11, demanding an immediate end to the Houthis’ attacks in the Red Sea.
Approximately 12 percent of global trade is carried out through the Suez Canal, which connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea and offers the shortest route between Europe and Asia.
