Interview with Macron after a speech new announcements on TF1

Emmanuel Macron will speak during an interview granted to the 13 Hours of TF1 and France 2, this Monday, July 24, 2023. The Head of State must take stock of the 100 days of appeasement and specify the policy to be carried out at the start of the school year. What to expect from speaking?

The essential

  • Emmanuel Macron grants an interview to the 1 p.m. television news of TF1 and France 2, this Monday, July 24, 2023.
  • During this interview, Emmanuel Macron should take stock of the “100 days of appeasement” and speak about the riots that occurred after the death of Nahel. The Head of State should also dwell on the political course of the start of the school year and, perhaps, on the recent reshuffle or the renewal of the Prime Minister at Matignon.
  • If the Head of State has already mentioned these subjects during his speech at the opening of the Council of Ministers, last Friday, he must this time address more to the French.
  • Emmanuel Macron’s interview is organized in duplex from Noumea, New Caledonia, where the Head of State is for a five-day trip.

10:16 – A television interview rather than a letter to the French

Before Emmanuel Macron decided to give an interview to the two television channels, the form of the speech was not clearly defined and the hypothesis of an open letter from the President of the Republic to the French published in the regional written press seemed to hold the rope. The idea was eventually discarded in favor of the more embodied and arguably more appealing holiday-time television interview.

10:05 – What will Emmanuel Macron say during the interview on TF1 and France 2?

Several subjects must be put on the table during the interview with Emmanuel Macron: first the assessment of the “100 days of appeasement” after the pension crisis and consequently the riots which occurred during this period after the death of Nahel. But in addition to the balance sheet, the Head of State should take advantage of this speech to specify the policies and projects for the start of the school year. Finally, while the interview comes the week after the reshuffle, Emmanuel Macron could come back to the adjustments made within the government and the maintenance of Elisabeth Borne at Matignon.

After a 25-minute speech held at the opening of the first Council of Ministers of the redesigned government, Emmanuel Macron decided to invest the sets of the 13 Hours news of TF1 and France 2, this Monday, July 21. If the previous speech was more intended for ministers, the interview conducted by Jacques Legros and Nathanaël de Rincquesen should allow the Head of State to address the French.

The President of the Republic, who took off for New Caledonia on Sunday July 23, must answer questions from journalists in duplex from Noumea. The news presenters will each be on their respective set. The interview should last between 15 and 20 minutes.

Emmanuel Macron’s speech at the 13 Hours of TF1 and France 2 should more or less take up the main lines of the speech of the Head of State in the Council of Ministers. The President of the Republic will be expected on the famous assessment of the 100 days of appeasement which followed the pension crisis, but were upset by the riots after the death of Nahel. Emmanuel Macron’s response to these episodes of violence is also expected at the turn.

But the Head of State should not be content to take stock, he should also specify the political course for the coming months, in particular the priority projects for the start of the school year, which were already listed last Friday. A word from Emmanuel Macron on the recent reshuffle and reappointment of the Prime Minister could come during the interview. Finally, Emmanuel Macron could evoke the status of New Caledonia since traveling on the island.

Having recalled the course of the government, namely the independence of the country, Emmanuel Macron cited the four axes to be invested in to achieve the objective: reindustrialization and full employment, the progress of public services, ecological planning and the republican order. Construction sites on which efforts have already been made, particularly in terms of work, with 1.7 million jobs created and factory reopenings. But the Head of State has rolled out a roadmap for each of the following points:

  • Education : invest in public service to “correct our initial inequalities” with a “profound transformation of our school system” started with the teacher pact or the reform of the vocational high school. Other arrangements for “the organization of the baccalaureate and the improvement of Parcoursup” could take place at the start of the school year
  • Health : also invest to guarantee a doctor for the 600,000 elderly French people or those with long-term illnesses “by the end of the year”. Emergency services are also a priority and must be “unclogged” before the end of next year.
  • Ecology : continue the ecological transition with “ecological planning” which will concern “all sectors” in addition to the energy sobriety plan and the water plan already in place. The Head of State recalled the European objective of reducing emissions by 2023 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
  • Republican order : to ensure the maintenance of the republican order, a policy started with the “doubling” of the budget of the Armies. The Head of State indicated that with the crises, “the risk of fragmentation of the nation is there. There is a need for authority and respect and legitimate hope”.

In addition to these lines of work, Emmanuel Macron listed four “priority” subjects for the summer: drought and the means of prevention in the face of the phenomenon, access to health and purchasing power, in particular the increase in energy prices. But it is the response to the riots sparked by Nahel’s death in late June that tops this list of priorities.

“We must provide complete and profound responses to the riots” experienced by the country, declared the Head of State. Then he had a word for the institutions affected and mobilized during the nights of violence, he promised to “continue to be at the side of the mayors who saw their town halls, their schools, their gymnasiums being damaged or burned” and to “rebuild” these infrastructures “as quickly as possible”. The Head of State thanked the mobilized police forces and addressed his support to them “so that calm holds”. As for the rioters, the President of the Republic assured that work will be done “with the most precarious children and families, for the summer be the subject of the necessary support”.
