Interpol appeals for help to identify the river boy

A year ago, a boy’s body was found in a river in Germany – but the boy has remained a mystery to the authorities.
Now Interpol is appealing for the public’s help in identifying him, reports
BBC.
– Someone, somewhere, knows something about this boy, says Jurgen Stock, head of Interpol.

It was in May last year that the body was found. According to Interpol’s assessment, he was never older than between five and six years.

The death of the unnamed boy is surrounded by questions, but according to the police there are signs that a crime may have been committed.

– Regardless of whether he was a victim of human trafficking, kidnapping or violence, we want to shed light on his death, says Jurgen Stock.

Sculpture of the boy

It is the first time that Interpol goes public and appeals for information regarding an unidentified child’s body. Usually, cases of this kind only go out internally and to the cooperating agencies that are part of the Interpol network.

The boy’s body was found at the bottom of the Danube River, where it runs through the German region of Bavaria, on May 19 last year.

He should then have been wrapped in foil and lowered to the bottom by tying it to the weight of a flagpole, according to Interpol.

The case has eluded the authorities for a year, which according to Interpol is an unusually long time. It could mean that the boy is from another country.
