International Polar Bear Day: The expert warns about the future

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

They can swim 50 miles, run faster than Usain Bolt and can weigh 800 kilos.

On Monday, International Polar Bear Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the great animal – whose future looks bleak as the ice melts in the Arctic.

Tom Arnbom, expert at WWF, talks about his own experiences about the animal and why climate change is a problem.

The expert’s forecast

– The sea ice is melting and that means that their hunting grounds disappear, where they catch seals or whales, and it is estimated that a third of the polar bears will be gone, already in 25, 30 years, he says.

Fortunately, the polar bear will not become extinct, says the expert.

– They will remain around north-west Greenland or north-east Canada, because there will always be ice left. The polar bear will have a last stronghold up there.
