THEY LEFT THEIR HOMES WITH SCRATCHES
The traumas of the great earthquakes, which are still vivid in memory, were triggered by 7.6, and crowds rushed out of the houses and workplaces screaming. In Mexico City, 400 kilometers from the earthquake’s epicenter, the streets were packed with people within minutes.
In parts of Mexico City, electricity was cut off after the earthquake, and subways could not move.
‘I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE A HEART ATTACK’
“I thought I was going to have a heart attack. This area is extremely vulnerable because most of the buildings damaged in the 2017 earthquake were not repaired. So the fear of being crushed is worse,” says Gabriela Ramirez, 58, a Mexico City resident.
Lopez Obrador, just before sharing the said Twitter message, attended the ceremony held in memory of those who died in the previous major earthquakes and raised a flag.
