North Korea continues to send garbage to South Korea. In the statement made by the South Korean General Staff (JCS), it was reported that Pyongyang sent 600 more balloons carrying garbage to South Korea’s border regions. In the statement, it was stated that most of the balloons sent as of 20:00 local time yesterday and carrying garbage such as plastic bags, pieces of paper and cigarette butts fell in the country’s Gyeonggi province. Citizens living in border areas were called not to touch suspicious bags and to report these bags to the security forces.
On the other hand, an investigation has been initiated on waste suspected to contain toxic chemicals.
HE SENT 260 BALLOONS BEFORE
Pyongyang, which announced that it would retaliate against propaganda leaflets sent to North Korea with balloons by South Korean activists, had sent 260 balloons carrying garbage such as propaganda leaflets, plastic bottles, batteries, shoe parts and fertilizer to South Korea’s border regions as of Tuesday night. South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik condemned North Korea’s step, saying, “This is an act that is unimaginably shameful, despicable and against humanity for a normal country.” South Korea’s Unification Ministry had warned that harsh measures would be taken if North Korea continued its “irrational” and “provocative” actions.
