According to the Ukrainian authorities, Russian forces are in the process of transferring troops from eastern Ukraine to the south in the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia in order to prepare the response to the counter-offensive by kyiv in these geographic areas.
However, fighting has been raging in the Donbass in recent hours, and in particular around Bakhmout, a city in the Donetsk region, around which the Russian army has focused its efforts. Heavy Russian bombardment killed two civilians in this town earlier this monthreported AFP.

Some 2,000 evacuations
According to several eyewitnesses, the Kremlin forces are progressing around Bakhmout, but also further south in the areas of Avdiivka, Pisky, northwest of Donetsk, parts of the front extremely fortified by the Ukrainians where high intensity fights.
This makes the evacuation of civilians difficult. According to kyiv, more than 2,000 people were evacuated by bus and train from the combat zones. But there are still tens of thousands of people, caught in the stranglehold of the bombardments.
