Instead of Monster Hunter Wilds, a monster hunt comes to Switch 2, which is brutally flopped on Steam

In spring 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds is a big topic on Steam, PS5 and Xbox. Many monster hunters speculated on a release for the Nintendo Switch 2. It is currently not planned. But a similar game is celebrating a comeback: the almost forgotten Wild Hearts.

That is the announcement: Koei Tecmo will bring Wild Hearts S to the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 25, 2025.

The action role-playing game is strongly reminiscent of the series Monster Hunter and plays in a fantasy world that resembles the feudal Japan. As a hunter, she travels through the country of Azuma and hunts huge monsters, Kemono. For the fight against them you use 8 types of weapons and also build objects that will help you in your struggle.

Nobody had expected the game now after a first release in the West failed more than 2 years ago.

Wild Hearts hardly had who on the release note for the Switch 2

Why is the game so surprising? Wild Hearts had its release on PS5, Steam and Xbox Series X in February 2023 and was clearly planned by EA as a replacement for the Monster Hunter World, which was already expiring at the time.

However, despite decent reviews, Wild Hearts quickly turned out to be a flop: the game was perceived as “far too expensive” with 80 € and suffered from significant performance problems. The most common criticism was on Steam at the time that the price in euros was higher than the FPS, which Wild Hearts could reach at most.

The number of players on Steam was not exhilarating to the release in February 2023 and then quickly fell on underground numbers.

In September 2023 we reported on Meinmmo that EA actually gave up the title and in fact there was hardly anything else in the months after.

Some regretted the quick dying of Wild Hearts at the time because the bad mood for the release was primarily due to performance problems and bugs. Those who gave Wild Hearts a chance praised the game in the highest tones.

It will be interesting to see whether Wild Hearts will now succeed in using his 2nd chance of a new beginning. The comments on YouTube are mostly friendly:

  • “Oh boy, the game is still alive.”
  • “Bro, we are something back.”
  • “I’m glad it’s not dead.”
  • “I am glad to see competition for Monster Hunter wildly.”
  • As the developers announce, the Switch version Wild Hearts S should be intended for 1 to 4 players.
