Instagram is evolving its internal messaging by adding an essential function: message scheduling. You can now choose a specific time and date to send your DMs!
If Instagram is above all a social network focused on images in general and photos in particular, it has its own messaging service, in order to offer a confidential communication space. This system is called DM (Direct Message) and allows an account to send written messages, links, audio, images to another account directly and privately. And suffice to say that it quickly became a must-have on the platform and one of the favorite discussion channels for many users.
However, the messaging was devoid of essential functions, which are nevertheless found among its competitors. We had to wait until March 2024 to see the DM editing function appear, alongside many others. Meta continues to catch up and adds a message scheduling system, as noted the new help page.
How to schedule a message to be sent on Instagram?
Thanks to this new function, it is now possible to write a message and schedule it to send at a later date. This is particularly practical to avoid forgetting birthdays! However, the application does not particularly highlight this option, so it is easy to miss it.
To do this, it’s very simple. All you have to do is write your DM as you normally would, then leave your finger pressed on the send button. A window then opens on the screen, allowing you to choose the date and time of sending. The maximum delivery time is approximately one month later. Then just press the blue button to send. A small mention “1 scheduled message” then appears above the input field.
Note that it is entirely possible to delete the programmed DM before it is sent. To do this, you must keep the message pressed so that a window containing all future shipments appears. Simply hold down the one you want to delete and select “Delete”. And that’s it! However, it is impossible to modify the date or time of the publication, you will have to schedule a new one.
