The famous photo application owned by Meta has recently had a whole new feature. However, it is not available for everyone.
Instagram’s new feature was so discreetly immersed in the application that Adam Mosseri, his CEO, was responsible for talking about it openly on the Internet. DuringA post on threadshe took the time to specify and clarify it.
“Some of you may have seen that we are testing a new button next to the comments on Instagram-this one allows people to express their disagreement with a private comment”can we read on the post threads of Adam Mosseri. The objective of this “dislike” button, strongly inspired by YouTube, is to moderate the social network more, sometimes in the grip of harmful toxicity to users. Taking the form of an arrow down and arranged next to the “Like” button, it turns out to be rather discreet.
A Welcome Moderation Policy
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, therefore seems to be oriented towards regulating malware and toxic comments. As is customary on YouTube, the “Dislike” counter will not be displayed on the social network, a means of preventing free hatred and violence between Instagrameurs. Negative feedback will sort the comments, invisiting those who will receive the most “dislikes”, without deleting them.
“No one will know if you have pressed the button”warns Adam Mosseri on Threads, thus releasing users with any fear of reprisals. The Instagram boss concludes his message by writing that “Our hope is to make comments more friendly” on the platform.
How to access this brand new button?
Despite the enthusiasm that the new “Dislike” button on Instagram can come in, not all users are unable to use it. In fact, Adam Mosseri clearly specifies that the functionality is still in the test phase and that it is not available for everyone. Only a few rare elected officials benefit from it at the moment, even if it is not excluded that it is generalized in the future.
If successful, Instagram’s “Dislike” button will be accessible on all devices, according to a Meta spokesperson. No date has yet been communicated by the company.
