Some Instagram users have received a notification that some of their stories have been deleted from their archive. The issue has been resolved, but the files are gone.
You may be one of the people who saw some of their stories disappear from their “archive” folder on Instagram. “Due to a technical problem, this story is no longer available,” users affected by this computer bug were able to read when opening their application, reports CNN, July 31. Today the issue is resolved, but deleted items cannot be restored.
Instagram stories are short videos or photos posted by users that appear in the small circles at the top of the app or site. They are only visible to everyone for one day. But these ephemeral videos or photos have been saved since 2017 in the “archives” folder of the social network. Each user has access to all their stories and can place them in folders visible to their subscribers on their account in “in the spotlight”.
The bug fixed
A spokesperson for Meta, Instagram’s parent company, said: “We found and fixed a bug that caused some people’s stories and archives to be deleted. Unfortunately, we are unable to restore them and are notifying users in-app if they are affected.”
It’s unclear how many users were affected, but those who weren’t are unlikely to be affected at this time. To verify that their stories are still being saved, users of the social network have until July 2025 to go to the “archives” folder and see if the error message is present. This type of computer glitch is not common, but it is impossible for Instagram to guarantee that it will not happen again. To keep the good memories that users have in their stories, they are advised to save them to their camera roll phone. To enable this automatic feature, go to the application settings, then to “archiving and downloads” and in the “your application and your multimedia contents” section. All that remains is to activate the “save original photos” feature, explains Tech&Co.
