Hardly anyone knows the job of the Vice President of the United States as well as the Vice President himself. Thus, the Democrats Terrible Harris gets to do custom work when he chooses his own vice presidential candidate.
Harris may be formalized as the Democratic presidential candidate already on Thursday in the virtual vote of the Democratic Party delegates, CBS News reported.
The vice presidential candidate does not have to be nominated at the same time, but no later than August 7, before the deadline for Ohio state election registrations.
At the moment, insider information says that Harris is eyeing three promising candidates, Bloomberg reports. The Guardian’s Democrat source Harris will announce his choice within a week.
The rumored top three are anything but boring chess.
Mark Kelly: combat flights weren’t enough, went on to space

However, the prized soldier had not yet flown enough, or at least not high enough. Kelly and her identical twin brother were chosen by NASA, the US space agency Scott Kelly’s to the astronaut program in 1996.
Kelly continued his astronaut career until 2011, during which time he spent more than 54 days in space.
Boiled in many broths, Kelly had to face perhaps his most difficult adversity in the same year, from a surprising direction.
Kelly was married to a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives by Gabrielle Giffords with in 2007.
In 2011, Giffords met with her constituents in a supermarket yard in Casas Adobes, Arizona. Suddenly, a man suffering from mental health problems who arrived at the meeting pulled out a pistol and started shooting.
Six people died and Giffords suffered brain damage from a bullet that went through her head. Giffords has worked hard to rehabilitate, but will never go back to the way it was.
Kelly became politically active after the shooting, particularly on tightening gun laws. In 2020, Kelly was elected to the Senate.
As a politician, Kelly is a middle-of-the-roader: he defends the right to abortion, but is cautious about the green transition and, among other things, has spoken in favor of new oil drilling. He has criticized the president Joe Biden on handling problems on the US southern border and announced stricter border measures.
To Kamala Harris, Kelly would make sense as a vice presidential candidate: an older white man, a war veteran, a moderate. Perhaps all that Harris would need to balance his candidacy with more conservative voters.
Josh Shapiro: a brutal lawyer, but not a spotless past
Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro51, has had a career very similar to Harris’: he graduated from Georgetown University with a law degree in 2002 and has been involved in politics for a long time.
ABC News sources have said Shapiro is “first in line for the vice presidential nomination.”
Shapiro made his living working for several Democratic congressional representatives in addition to studying law. He went into politics himself at the state level and held several positions, eventually ending up in 2016 as the attorney general of Pennsylvania.
As Minister of Justice, Shapiro was not afraid of big challenges. He was involved in the Catholic Church in the investigation of alleged sexual crimesblamed pharmaceutical companies for the country’s opiate crisis and challenged Donald Trump’s policies, including the Muslim travel ban and allegations of 2020 election fraud.
Shapiro was elected governor of Pennsylvania in 2022.
Shapiro is a staunch defender of abortion rights and has opposed the use of the National Guard to resolve the southern border crisis.
Shapiro would be a great addition to Harris’s campaign in the sense that he represents Pennsylvania’s “rural America”, although he cannot possibly be considered working class.
By background, Shapiro is a conservative Jew, who, with complete reluctance, refers to the “modern” trend of Judaism. Conservative Jews see that the instructions of the Torah can be freely interpreted within the framework of the prevailing culture.
Shapiro is defended Israel while waging war in the Gaza Strip following an attack by the terrorist organization Hamas. He has taken a firm part in the domestic debate on the status of Jews and has warned of the rise of anti-Semitism.
This does not necessarily please the left wing of the Democrats, which is very critical of Israel’s military actions and Zionism.
The old and award-winning newspaper The Philadelphia Inquirer brings out Shapiro another risk: Shapiro can possibly connect sexual harassment with a cover-up.
In fall 2023, Shapiro’s governor’s office quietly paid $295,000 to settle a case in which an office staffer accused a Shapiro adviser and close ally Mike Verebia sexual harassment. Vereb allegedly got close to the employee and used inappropriate language about her and other coworkers.
Vereb unexpectedly resigned from his administrative job three weeks after the agreement. Shapiro does not enjoy the confidence of all Democrats: a Pennsylvania Democrat Erin McClelland brought up what had just happened in the X message service indirectly, but quite with a clear message.
Tim Walz: Guns & Cannabis
The most down-to-earth politician of the rumored top three is Tim Walzthe 60-year-old governor of Minnesota.
Born in Nebraska, Walz is a former National Guard member who spent his career working in agriculture, industry and the school system.
Walz is a rarity in that he is not directly a member of the Democratic Party.
Walz belongs to the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. The party is one of two “allied parties” of the Democratic Party, which operate under a different name than the national “parent party”.
Folk Walz often appears in clothes with terrain patterns according to the style of his state and speaking according to online commentators like a “normal person”.
Trump and his vice presidential candidate JD Vance Walz has described as “strange guys”.
Walz has pushed through a large number of liberal reforms in a traditionally conservative state: paid parental leave, free school meals, the legalization of the recreational use of cannabis, the inclusion of abortion rights in state law, and the tightening of gun laws.
Walzia, a traveler of the middle road, describes well the changes in his opinions. Still in 2012 The NRA, America’s most powerful gun rights and gun lobby organization, gave its blessing to congressional candidate Walz.
Walz was a proud defender of gun rights, a former hunter and member of the National Guard.
That changed in 2018 when a mentally challenged 19-year-old shooter in Parkland, Florida, struck a school with an AR-15 assault rifle. 17 people died in the bloodiest school shooting in the country’s history.
Walz was shocked by what happened, condemned the NRA in a newspaper article and started pushing for stricter gun laws.
Walz would be an excellent pair of horns for Harris as the voice of the working class and as a character that people in remote areas can identify with.
However, what speaks against him is that he does not come from a Libra stateand this would not necessarily swing decisive electoral fields in the direction of the Democrats.
