Since the release of Destiny 2’s hybrid mode in 2018, Gambit has garnered many fans. But in recent years, Bungie has punished the vagabond with neglect and unfulfilled promises. Now the Guardians are finally demanding answers as to why the Gambit system isn’t getting the attention and support it deserves.
Why is Gambit dying right now? Gambit mode is popular with Wardens and was cited by many as one of the best innovations in Destiny 2 in 2018’s Forsaken DLC. In the meantime, however, Bungie is putting off Gambit fans from season to season with inconcrete statements about new maps and the future of Gambit.
Since Bungie dropped old maps from Drifter mode in the Beyond Light DLC, not much has happened to the once-innovative hybrid mode, save for a few quality-of-life adjustments.
Destiny 2 is testing changes to its favorite mode, Gambit, to make it more exciting
Accordingly, the guardians noted again this week with disappointment that there will probably be nothing for Gambit in the current Lightfall DLC either and that the mode has been dying for far too long.
It’s almost as if Gambit is no longer a priority for Bungie. And that, although the game director Joe Blackburn 2021, in the 16th season of Destiny 2, gave Gambit fans hope.
Guardians Demand Honest Response From Bungie
There are still enough Gambit fans: What makes the gaming experience in Gambit so good is the combination of PvE and PvP elements. Players have to fight mostly against AI-controlled opponents and on the other hand try to outwit and defeat their opponents. This requires a good strategy and close cooperation with the team.
In addition, the gambit system provides a high degree of replayability, because a round is played quickly and thus offers an entertaining pastime without having to go straight into sweaty PvP.
As a result, there are still many players in 2023 who love the unique gaming experience that Gambit offers and want it to remain an important part of Destiny 2.
A clear Gambit statement is 2 years overdue: However, Gambit fans are now fed up with Bungie’s consolation. They finally demanded an honest answer this week and, above all, an end to the empty promises.
On Reddit, player Jarroisthebestrobin’s Gambit thread has garnered 2.8K upvotes so far, demanding that Bungie end this frustration with a single sentence.
I know game development is difficult, but I think two years is enough time to create a new map or even revise one of the old maps. […] Why can’t Bungie just say “Expect Gambit info in Season 23” or if the post plan is for The Final Form then just say “Expect Gambit info soon”. All of this frustration could be avoided with a single set from Bungie.

Although players kept asking for improvements and new content, far too often their requests were ignored. Many guardians therefore feel that Gambit has been dead for years and was actually abandoned by Bungie long ago.
But while the required statement means that their favorite mode may end soon, some still want an open-ended answer, as gamer 957 notes:
Or just say that you [Bungie] not working on it. It’s okay if you drop the ball. But at least let the ball hit the ground and not fall through the endless vacuum of space forever and ever.
writes player 957, who just wants clarity about what’s going on now
What does Bungie say about this? Bungie has not yet commented on this.
However, the Gambit community in Destiny 2 remains optimistic and hopes that the developers will respond soon and that the Gambit system will receive the attention and support it deserves. Or at least an answer to the question of whether Bungie is even planning to use the mode in the future.
We want to know from you: What do you think about the state of Gambit in Destiny 2? Have you played the mode lately? What would you like Bungie to do with Gambit? Should the mode die in peace or would you want to save it? Please let us know what you think in the comments.
When it comes to other issues, Bungie is more forthcoming, giving players direct, detailed information:
