Innovation: NEFET, the artificial intelligence system that protects data centers

Innovation NEFET the artificial intelligence system that protects data centers

(Finance) – An artificial intelligence system “made in Naples” which identifies the points where the data centers overheat and, by exploiting clean energy, i.e. external air, normalizes the temperature level, thus safeguarding the functionality of the systems. All without generating further pollution. It is called Nefet and it is designed and created by Vactis, a Campania company founded in 2016.

“Data centers – explains the operational director of Vactis, Luigi Vicedomini – they are computer systems which, by exchanging hundreds of thousands of data, allow communication systems of all types, from common cell phones to PCs up to the security systems of entire countries, to function and interconnect quickly and from anywhere. This generates energy and heat and the ever-increasing flows resulting from current needs raise the risk of crashes, blocks that would send the entire world into a tailspin. The prevention of this type of blackout represents a challenge for professionals and studying how to prevent them by exploiting only renewable energy is now an indispensable guideline.”

“The energy saving and the use of renewable sources represents the guideline of our work – explains Vicedomini -. This is how Nefet was born: it controls the temperature so that it remains constant, avoiding paralysis of operation and it does so in an intelligent way by making the most of the minimum amount of energy to maintain the room temperature”. Energy saving and practical applications, therefore: “We are the first in sector to have applied AI to data centers and TLC exchanges”, says the COO of Vactis.

Nefet was the protagonist of a conference that saw a comparison between the academic world and the business world for the training of environmental professionals of the future. Organized by Cubo Creativity Design and moderated by the journalist Valentina Castellano, the conference was held in the cloister of Santa Caterina a Formiello under centuries-old vaults as a backdrop to futuristic inventions. At the speakers’ table Fabio Siesto, head of the Design and maintenance of mechanical systems, building division sector of the Federico II University, Maria Vicidomini, associate professor of Energy and technical physics at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the Federico, the CEO of Vactis, Vittorio Messina and COO Luigi Vicedomini.
