Filmed from the International Space Station (ISS), the night sky appears illuminated by our lights. The show is magnificent but reminds us that light pollution is not an empty word. Darkness is receding in many places on our planet, which is not without consequences for living things. One of the effects is to prevent city dwellers from seeing the stars properly; another is to make our civilization visible.

By exposing yourself for a few moments to the natural light, we all feel a sense of well-being. A benefit that the artificial light, under which we spend almost 90% of our time, can not provide. In case of lack, the negative effects are not long in being felt. Depending on the individual, we become more or less irritable, tired, stressed … In other words, less efficient and prone to small strokes of depressed.

A revised wavelength

If the Led lamps have many advantages, their design does not (yet) allow them to uniformly comply with the entire spectrum luminous. A drawback which, looking at the wave length of these lights, results in the presence of a clearly visible peak in the blues (between 430 and 460 nm). In fact, by exposing ourselves most of our time under this type of light source, we unknowingly disturb our circadian cycle. To correct this inconvenience, Sylvania has developed a whole new technology of artificial lighting. Called “Luminature”, it is, for greater comfort, human-centered and, according to the manufacturer, is intended to be “The most natural of artificial lights”.

Promote melatonin production

To achieve this feat, this new generation lighting, offers a complete and uniform light spectrum without emittingultraviolet and D’infrared. By reproducing as closely as possible the sunlight, this Led lighting stimulates our body on a daily basis and promotes the regulation of the production of melatonin. A hormone essential (produced by pineal gland) well known for the role it plays in our sleep.

A color spectrum similar to that of natural light

Another advantage of this new lighting: ensuring excellent color rendering. Compared to the light of the day whose color rendering index (IRC) is 100, that of this led lamp is greater than 97 for all shades including reds (R9> 90). For comparison, a standard led lamp has a CRI above 80, where high-end lamps are around 95.

These latest generation LEDs offer real comfort while respecting our biological clock influencing our mood, our concentration, our behavior … Points which are at the heart of the program Human Centric Lighting (HCL) whose stakes are at the same levels as the quality ofair. It is unfortunate that this innovation represented by “Luminature” is only reserved for the tertiary sector, given the number of people who work from home. Hopefully this technology arrives soon at individuals.

  • Screens or artificial light, long and late exposure disrupts our melatonin production.
  • Do not confuse IRC with color temperature. This changes the atmosphere of the room but does not change the colors.
  • “Luminature” technology is embedded in the manufacturer’s Ascent 100 and Optix ranges of luminaires.
