Is it possible to mix John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, Oxmo Puccino and Duke Ellington?
With Inner Songs, Olivier Temime proves it and becomes the heir of a cosmopolitan Jazz, nourished by the upheavals of his time, by essence mixed and powerful.
Whether it’s arranging and improvising on a speech by Rahsaan Roland Kirk, harmonizing the song of a blackbird or moving from a lullaby tune to the solemn expressiveness of a flugelhorn solo , Temime composes a very melodic music, emotional and also based on the interaction with the members of this new formation, a mixture of young shoots and great vintages. We also meet Stéphane Belmondo, a String Quartet arranged by Vincent Artaud and Oxmo Puccino. A long-time friend of the Volunteered Slaves, Arnold Moueza deploys his powerful percussion playing; Emmanuel Bex, still in orbit, triturates new harmonies. On the piano, the luminous Étienne Deconfin, supported by the implacable groove of Samuel Hubert and the telluric drums of Antoine Paganotti, dialogue with a Temime on ever more expressive saxophones. At the realization, Julien Lourau, past master of decompartmentalization.
With Inner Songs, Temime unveils these inner songs that sometimes sound like standards from the future. – Clickety Clack, won’t somebody bring the Spirit back? – (Roland Kirk)

Then we receive the group ¿Who’s The Cuban? in the #SessionLive for the release of the new album pafata with RFI Talent.
¿Who’s The Cuban? mixes the essence of Cuban music, rock, pop and psychedelic notes. From this unusual fusion comes a tropicalized, electric alloy, dancing with a fiery live and bubbling with energy. ¿Who’s The Cuban? is a Latin Rock Fusion music group. The musicians share the irresistible desire to mix rock, pop and psychedelic notes with the essence of Cuban music. The delicious Latin melodies meet a saturated guitar, a powerful bass, hovering synths punctuated by devilish percussions and unbridled drums. From this unusual fusion, arises a tropicalized, electric alloy, dancing with an inflamed live and bubbling with energy. On February 3, 2023, will be released pafata, the band’s second album selected by RFI Talents and the Au Fil Des Voix festival. ¿Who’s The Cuban? goes further in the blending of its influences and affirms a personal and audacious style.
The new album:
Navigating between popular Cuban music and 70’s influences, ¿Who’s The Cuban? crosses the Caribbean arc by flying its pop, rock and psychedelic flag. The attack of the brass is frontal, the cowbell resonates under the blows of the sticks and the female/male vocal duo deploys refinement and subtlety on the guitar melodies. The paths taken are sometimes different. They lead to poetry or require dancing. Yet the flame that gave birth to them always comes from the same hearth: Cuba. Connected to the Port of Havana as per rhythmic storm warning, ¿Who’s The Cuban? allow themselves explorations and adventures. Launched at full speed in a percussive and brassy rush that propels them out of radar range, sometimes immersed in a psychedelic trip lit by futuristic keyboards, the group never loses musical contact with the island. Regardless of distance traveled or altitude reached, Cuba always remains visible, even when conventional structures are challenged by more electric Yoruba trances. Thousands of kilometers are traveled, the time of 9 tracks, and ¿Who’s The Cuban? carry with pafata his music from the Caribbean to Africa, from Africa to Europe. The group crosses paths, overlaps them and, like the music that inspired it, mixes genres to create its own.
¿Who’s The Cuban? is a Latin Rock Fusion music group formed in 2017 between Nancy and Paris. After the release of the first album Circo Circo in 2019, the group welcomes a new singing duo: Colombian Pao Barreto (The Bongo Hop, Cumbia Ya) and Cuban trumpeter Dayron Ramirez Hernandez (Yuri Buenaventura). With this new team, the septet is performing on the best stages in France (Cabaret Vert, Au Fil des Voix, Convivencia, Tempo Latino festivals) and elsewhere. He has been seen on tour in Canada (Festival d’Été de Québec, Kultrùn Festival) and in Cuba (Havana, Pinar Del Rio, Matanzas, Varadero). At the end of 2019, the group created in association with the Nancy Jazz Pulsations festival the “¿Who’s The Cuban? Orchestra”, a Latin jazz adaptation for big band of their compositions. This resulted in the album Circo Live, recorded live and released on October 3, 2020. In 2022, ¿Who’s The Cuban? goes further in the blending of its influences and affirms a more personal and daring style with the release of 2 EPs: Nunca Matare & Summer Tape. These opuses prepare the release of pafata, on February 3, 2023, the group’s second album selected by RFI Talents and the Au Fil Des Voix festival.
We will have Pao Barreto And Thibaut Chipot in interview.
