Not only Beverly Hills Cop 4 is coming up this year (film releases on Netflix on July 3rd), but also Bad Boys 4: Ride or Die with the action comedy colleagues from Miami. These are Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as a well-rehearsed detective duo.
The film’s first screenings took place this week at various locations in the USA – and initial reactions are impressive. Not only a good sign for fans of the series, but especially for Smith, whose career urgently needs success after his dramatic Oscar freak-out so that it doesn’t go down the drain. The only thing that is questionable is that it has to be a film in which he punches others in the nose.
Action sequel Bad Boys 4: Not bad at all?
Bill Bria, who writes for SlashFilm among others, says on X (formerly Twitter): “Bad Boys: Ride or Die is an absolute blast. It’s crazy how [die Regisseure] Adil & Bilall taps into the strong emotional core of the series without sacrificing any of the crazy fun. Smith and Lawrence are in top form, the additional cast give it their all (Reggie!) and the explosions are bomb.”

Shanelle Genai (Essense) agrees: “The Bad Boys agenda is alive, well, long and strong. It feels good to have fun at the movies, you know? [Der Film] has its serious moments when it needs to, but its primary goal is to entertain. Give me some escapism… Can’t wait to see him again!“

And Screen Rant’s Owen Danoff says: “The action is just as good as you’d expect and it might even be the funniest yet? The biggest applause in my screening went to Dennis Greene as Reggie for reasons you’ll have to see for yourself! No prior bad boy knowledge necessaryto have fun!”

Only Russ Milheim (The Direct) seemed to have less fun: “Bad Boys: Ride or Die was unfortunately not the film for me. But it seems many fans of the franchise will enjoy it, and the audiences I saw it with enjoyed it.”

The film by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah seems to be anything but bad, but this late in the $840 million series it is hardly suitable for converting those who don’t like action. We’ll find out more when the first official film reviews arrive.
