Headlined by a combined choir featuring choral society and Ingersoll District collegiate institute performers, the evening benefit concert raised $2,000 for the school’s music program. After an evening of “high-energy entertainment” provided by a variety of Ingersoll District ensembles, the combined choir capped the evening with a moving rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
“As well, some great intergenerational connections were made, which hopefully will continue to grow in the years to come,” choral society officials said in a release.
Before the May 3 concert, the choral society helped host a workshop at the high school for the music students. Led by the society’s musical director, Holly Langohr, several society members instructed students in a series of topics, including proper and warm-up exercises, while discussing the “many breathing joys and benefits” of taking part of a choir. The students joined the choral society members in singing a number of songs that would be performed later that evening.

“All participants of the workshop had a great time,” choral society officials said, “and the (society) members were more than a little impressed with the energy and enthusiasm of the students.”
The Ingersoll Choral Society is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1990 to offer a forum for choral singers in the region. While based in Ingersoll, members come from throughout Oxford County, London and as far away as St. Thomas. With an emphasis on fun and friendliness, an exceptional voice or extensive musical knowledge is not a requirement for membership, officials said, just a passion for singing.
The choir meets Monday evenings from September to May at the Ingersoll Christian Reformed Church. New members are always welcome.
