Now Ingemar Stenmark has made a new decision as a 68-year-old.
“Stenis” has registered for the veteran WC in Gothenburg.
There are few Swedish athletes who can measure up Ingemar Stenmarks amazing success and great popularity in our country. Although many years have passed since he finished his career as an alpine skier, he never ceases to amaze one.
“Stone’s” new sport
Recently, Stenmark started to train in a completely new sport in the autumn of his age. As a fun thing, the 68-year-old started a venture into pole vaulting – and now it’s ramping up.

“Stenis” did his very first competition at veteran level in April, when he jumped 2.70 meters. And since then we have been able to follow his training through his Instagram account.
– It’s complicated. It is technically difficult, a challenge all the time, Stenmark said of his new venture at the time.
Stenmark’s decision
Even then, the skiing icon opened up about possibly competing in the veteran WC.
– It’s not impossible, but I’m not really that competitive. It’s more of a fun thing and good training too, admitted Ingemar.

Since then, Stenmark has delayed his answer about the competition, until now. It is now clear that Ingemar Stenmark has signed up for the veteran WC in Gothenburg this summer, he will compete in the M65 class.

– I think it’s fantastic! I imagine that I will run into him in Sollentunahallen and can give him some tips, says “Mondo” to SVT.
