(Finance) – Until August 23rd in the Massico Gallery on the Naples-Rome railway line via Formia, over 5 kilometers long and inaugurated in 1927, no trains will pass but one of the 1,400 RFI railway construction sites currently active on the tracks is operational. A plan for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, technological enhancement of the infrastructure and construction of new lines with value – explains FS News, the FS Group’s information portal – of 9 billion euros of investments at national level in 2024.
The works include the Consolidation and waterproofing of the vaultso as to protect it against water infiltration. A task not easy: holes will be made and then silicone resins will be inserted to make the holes hermetic. “We are also waterproofing viaducts – explains Fabio Rapuano, Director of Infrastructure Campania at RFI – these are complex activities because the track and ballast must be removed, waterproofed and then the railway infrastructure must be replaced.”
At work on this construction site there are 30 people between technicians from RFI and other companies contracted for the entire phase of the works, with a total investment of approximately 60 million. The interventions in fact concern not only the Gallery but also the preparatory works for the installation of theMulti-station Computerized Central Apparatus son the Villa Literno – Formia route. The ACC-M – we read on FS News – represents an advanced technology in the railway circulation sector that guarantees greater regularity and punctuality. A real “control room” that makes the infrastructure more reliable and efficient. “At the end of the works we will have a much more modern and efficient line – explains Rapuano – which will allow for greater regularity for all our passengers.”
To allow the construction sites to operate, train traffic is suspended from 3 to 23 August between the stations of Villa Literno and Minturno and from 19 to 20 August also between the stations of Villa Literno and Formia. The interruptions affect the Intercity and Regional trains of Trenitalia, where a bus service has been set up from the station of Villa Literno and Minturno.
