    According to the latest report from Public Health France, all metropolitan areas are now affected by the flu epidemic. Hospitalizations are also on the rise.

    In his last epidemiological bulletin dated December 14, Public Health France indicates that all metropolitan areas are now in the “epidemic” phase. Only Guyana and Guadeloupe are still in the pre-epidemic phase.

    Flu: more and more French people are hospitalized

    According to the latest data from the National Public Health Agency, week 49 was marked by:

    • A continued increase in influenza indicators (at all ages);
    • A sharp increase in hospitalizations (+117%);
    • An increase in the number of visits to the emergency room for flu syndrome (+93%);
    • The passage of all metropolitan areas into the epidemic phase.

    In the overseas territories, only Guyana and Guadeloupe seem a little more spared (passage to the pre-epidemic phase).

    In Mayotte, Reunion and Martinique, the continuation of the flu epidemic continues.

    Faced with the epidemic situation, Public Health France considers “that it is urgent to get vaccinated against the flu for people at risk“.

    An observation shared by Dr. Kierzek.

    Getting vaccinated is essential! Everyone can receive the vaccine of course, but people at risk are particularly affected. In the midst of the Covid and bronchiolitis epidemic, the flu is the straw that broke the camel’s back. It would therefore be a shame to deprive yourself of a vaccination.”

    The peak of bronchiolitis seems to have passed

    If the epidemic of bronchiolitis in babies continues “at a high level” in metropolitan France, but also in Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique and Mayotte, its peak nevertheless seems to have been reached.

    Last week, the authorities have indeed recorded a decrease in emergency room visits and hospitalizations “signing the very probable passage of the peak of the epidemic“.

    This should not prevent the French from being extra careful in the face of this triple epidemic.

    The government invites all citizens to be vaccinated before the holidays.

    Vaccination and respect for barrier gestures remain the best ways to protect yourself from respiratory viruses“.
