The Spanish couple, called Vicente and Fernanda, have made a name for themselves on social media by traveling around the world on motorcycles and documenting their travels. While traveling through India, they were attacked by a group of men, reports say Sky.
The couple reportedly failed to find any hotel and decided to camp in Jharkand state. The police found the tourists by the side of the road on Friday and describe that they appeared to have been beaten.
Kept going for hours
The couple told the Spanish television channel Antena 3 that the men assaulted the woman and hit her partner repeatedly.
– They raped me. They took turns while some people watched, and they went on like that for about two hours, says Fernanda.
On the couple’s joint Instagram page, they have published a post where the woman shows bruises on her face, according to CNN.
“Thought I was going to die”
“This is what my face looks like, but that’s not what hurts the most. I thought I was going to die,” she writes.
On Tuesday, Indian police announced that seven men had been arrested on suspicion of the attack. The affected man has had about $12,000 transferred to his account following a judge’s decision, Reuters reports.
The attack has sparked outrage on social media in India. Many women have shared their experiences of sexual violence and their frustration with how it is handled. According to Indian authorities, a total of 31,516 rape cases were recorded in 2022 – an average of 86 cases per day.
