Inflation and war became too much – now Hammarstrand’s only clothing store is closing

It is becoming increasingly difficult to run businesses in sparsely populated areas and in small towns. The customer base is too small and mostly consists of pensioners. Online shopping is growing all the time.

– It is difficult to compete with the network both for the price and the goods, says Aurelia Jensen.

Long journeys

When her store disappears, it is other places, such as Östersund, Sollefteå or Sundsvall, that apply if you do not want to shop online.

– I think it’s boring with all the empty shop windows and all the shops that are closing down, says Hammarstrand resident Gunilla Jonsson.

– It’s a shame. There should be clothing stores, but it’s not possible with too little turnover, says Lennart Erlingsson.
