Infant died south of Stockholm

The police were called to Tungelsta early on Sunday morning and investigated a serious crime.
Now prosecutors confirm that it is about the death of an infant.
– A preliminary investigation is underway, says prosecutor Sofia Mineur.

A large police and rescue operation, including a helicopter, began at 06:00 last Sunday in Tungelsta in Västerhaninge, south of Stockholm.

The alarm first concerned a case of illness. But the police later stated that a serious crime is suspected and did not want to comment further on the matter.

On Monday, a prosecutor took over the investigation.

– I can confirm that it is an infant who has died and that a preliminary investigation is underway, says Sofia Mineur, chamber prosecutor and head of the preliminary investigation.

The prosecutor does not want to comment on which crime is being investigated or if there are any suspects.

– I judge that it is a sensitive matter and in a very early stage of investigation. That’s why I don’t want to provide any additional information.

Relatives are informed of the death.

The Stockholm police remain tight-lipped and did not want to comment on Monday.
