At least 56 people were killed in a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Indonesia’s West Java province.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the earthquake that occurred 18 kilometers southwest of the city of Ciranjang was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers.

According to a statement from the National Disaster Agency, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil confirmed that at least 56 people were killed and 700 injured in the earthquake.
It was reported that many buildings, including hospitals and schools, were damaged due to the severe earthquake.
Cianjur district official Herman Suherman also stated that there was a power outage in Sayang hospital and therefore patients could not be operated on.
A tsunami warning was not issued after the earthquake, which was recorded as causing a few seconds of shaking in the capital Jakarta. (AA)
